Corporate America Protects their Brand by Claiming .suck and .porn

After June 1st everybody is open to buy a .porn and .suck website domain, but for Corporate America and Celebrities, they are trying to purchase everything before the internet trolls do.

Online Reputation Management Issues

Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) determined it was time to expand on the generic domains, like .com and .net in 2011. Today, with new suffixes being released every month, they are over 547 new gTLDs on the Web.

But with .porn and .suck, these two will open a can of worms of online reputation management issues that brands do not want to deal with on a regular basis. Corporations do not want to be connected with something negative that could possibly ruin their reputation management.

Taylor Swift Buys X-Rated Web Domains

Selected trademarked brands, companies and celebrities are able to scoop in to purchase the “scandalous” domains before June 1. Taylor Swift and Microsoft are already getting on this domain train and purchasing everything that has to do with their brand. Microsoft registered Office.porn and Office.adult to save face, along with Taylor Swift. She also purchased TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult.

They want positive images – they want positive messages. They’re not going to turn
[.sucks] into a positive, said Steve Miholovich, SVP of marketing at Safenames, a domain registrar and advisory firm for websites.

Taylor Swift purchased every possible variation of .porn and .suck to prevent other users from doing harm to their image and brand.

ICANN believes expanding the domains will benefit internet users because it helps secures their intended destinations, such as .healthcare, .deals, .org etc. This helps business become easier to search and set up with their unique addresses.
